Liberty RESP 406 Advanced Ventilatory Support Entire Class

Course Description

Advanced ventilatory support is inclusive of advanced modes (NAVA, APRV, PAV, ASV, etc.), high-frequency ventilation, extracorporeal CO2 removal, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

For information regarding prerequisites for this course, please refer to the Academic Course Catalog.

Rationale

New and improved ways of ventilating patients with cardiopulmonary diseases are ever-evolving and changing. This course will focus on the advanced modes of mechanical ventilation with an emphasis on theory, risk/benefit ratio, and application. Check our further programs and courses and click liberty university.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast advanced and non-traditional modes of ventilation.
  2. Evaluate a patient on ECMO or negative pressure ventilation.
  3. Determine the need for advanced modes by weighing the risk/benefit ratio.
  4. Execute a weaning strategy utilizing advanced modalities of ventilation.
  5. Determine if advanced ventilatory support is helping by critically analyzing clinical data.

Program Learning Outcomes

The below are the Respiratory Therapy Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):

  1. Comprehend, apply, and evaluate clinical information relevant to their roles as registered respiratory therapists (cognitive domain).
  2. Perform the technical skills necessary to fulfill their role as registered respiratory therapists (psychomotor domain).
  3. Demonstrate professional behavior consistent with clinical rotation site expectations as a registered respiratory therapist (affective domain).
  4. Utilize critical thinking/problem-solving skills to develop the best patient treatment for those suffering from cardiopulmonary disease.
  5. Integrate the biblical worldview into all aspects of respiratory therapy.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have emphasized A, B, C, and D, and reinforced E.

In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 50 words.

PEEP Study Flowsheet Assignment

The student will determine the optimal PEEP level for a patient based upon a wide range of physiological data presented, in 1,000-1,500 words.

Ventilator Asynchrony Diagnosis/Recommendations Assignment

The student will recognize ventilator asynchrony occurring, diagnose the type of asynchrony, and make appropriate recommendations for correcting it.

Implementing NAVA Assignment

The student will demonstrate effective implementation of NAVA Ventilation, selecting appropriate settings for the patient based on physiologic data.

Modifying APRV Assignment

The student will demonstrate effective APRV management, including modification of APRV settings based upon the physiologic data presented.

Advanced Ventilatory Modality Paper Assignments (2)

Topic Assignment

In a Word document, you will submit your paper topic. You will identify an appropriate topic for the paper. The topic is relevant to advanced ventilation, related to the content of the course, and also relevant to your career interests. Strong evidence of preliminary research is included. Provide three or more APA references for peer-reviewed sources in support of his/her paper.

Final Submission Assignment

The student will write a 3,750–5,000 word research-based paper in the current APA format that focuses on any Advanced Ventilatory Modality presented in the course. The paper must include at least 3 references in addition to the course textbook and the Bible.

Study Guide Assignments (2)
