Liberty PHYS 331 Electricity and Magnetism Entire Class
Course Description
A continuation of topics on electric and magnetic fields, including scalar and vector potentials, boundary conditions, and waves.
Please visit Liberty University for details on this course’s prerequisites.
Rationale
This course provides an in-depth study of electrostatics, magnetostatics, and electrodynamics. PHYS 331 is an approved course requirement for physics majors.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the nature and the characteristic properties of electric and magnetic fields, and the interrelationship between these fields.
- Understand the mathematics of electric and magnetic fields in terms of conservative and non-conservative fields, and scalar and vector potentials.
- Be able to describe the effect of these fields on electric charges and magnetic dipoles
- Understand how moving charges and changing currents give rise to electromagnetic radiation and be able to describe the nature and properties of electromagnetic waves

Course Requirements Checklist
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
Homework Assignments (6)
Each homework assignment must be handwritten, will be open-book/open-notes, and will cover the Learn material covered throughout the module (MLOs: A, B, C, and D).
Quiz: Midterm Exam
The Quiz: Midterm Exam will be timed, handwritten, open-book/open-notes, and cover the course Learn material for all of the previously assigned modules. Students will have 240 minutes to complete this quiz. Students are expected to show all of their work completely and thoroughly in the same exact way that was expected for Homework Assignments throughout the course. This includes writing the correct Midterm answer/solution. A box or circle should be placed around all Midterm answers. The use of external websites of any kind is forbidden except for wolframalpha.com or integral-calculator.com for the use of computing a difficult derivative or integral, should the need arise (MLOs: A, B, C, and D).
Quiz: Final Exam
The Quiz: Final Exam will be timed, handwritten, open-book/open-notes, and cover the course Learn material for all of the previously assigned modules. Students will have 240 minutes to complete this quiz. Students are expected to show all of their work completely and thoroughly in the same exact way that was expected for Homework Assignments throughout the course. This includes writing the correct Final answer/solution. A box or circle should be placed around all Midterm answers. The use of external websites of any kind is forbidden except for wolframalpha.com or integral-calculator.com for the use of computing a difficult derivative or integral, should the need arise (MLOs: A, B, C, and D).
