Rationale

This course facilitates the study of the Old Testament in the original language of Hebrew as a vital component of the hermeneutical process. This grammar course provides a full year of grammar study in which the student will learn the basics of Hebrew vocabulary, morphology, phonology, and grammar. The study of the original languages develops depth and expertise that is essential for graduate work in biblical studies and solid exposition of the Bible in the context of Christian teaching and preaching. Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

    1. Pronounce Hebrew consonants and vowels.
    2. Recognize Hebrew word formations.
    3. Parse Hebrew words, especially verbs.
    4. Translate Hebrew words that occur frequently in the Hebrew Bible.
    5. Interpret simple sentences by deductive mastery of the material in the textbook and by inductive analysis of sentences in the homework assignments.

Each extended exam will cover Learning material for the modules in which it is assigned. Each will be closed-book/closed-notes, contain 50 true/false, multiple-choice, and short answer questions, and have a 2-hour time limit. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)
