Course Details:

This course prepares students for the rapidly evolving world of health care by addressing topics affecting practice and issues facing future nurse leaders and educators. Changing reimbursement models and their effect on nursing practice will be discussed. Topics related to technology such as telehealth and nursing informatics will be examined. Quality improvement, patient safety, and other topics relevant to contemporary nursing will be explored.

Discussion assignments are collaborative learning experiences. Each student will complete 2 Discussion Board Forums throughout this course. Each forum will require a thread of at least 500 words in response to the prompt provided. The student must then post 2 replies to classmates’ threads of at least 250 words each.

Healthcare and Social Media Assignment:

The student will complete a paper regarding healthcare and social media. The paper will be 3 – 5 pages, formatted in the current APA style, include a title and reference page (not included in the required page count), and incorporate a minimum of 2 scholarly resources.

Informatics Program Assignments:

The student will complete two Informatics Program papers. Each paper must be 5 – 8 pages, formatted in the current APA style, include a title and reference page (not included in the required page count), and incorporate a minimum of 5 scholarly resources.

Informatics Program: Needs Assessment Assignment:

The student will select a program type (telehealth, EHR, or simulation) on which to base their work for the Informatics Program Assignments. The student will integrate a theoretical framework, describe a needs assessment, and identify the role of the informatics nurse in relation to the program type selected.

Informatics Program: Implementation Plan Assignment:

Building on the needs assessment, the student will devise a program implementation plan which incorporates QSEN graduate-level competencies, health IT policies, ethical considerations, and organizational benefits of the program.

The student will complete 3 quizzes throughout this course. Quizzes will cover the course Learn the material. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 45 multiple-choice questions and 1 short essay question, and have a 2-hour time limit. If the student exceeds the time limit, 1 point will be deducted for every 5 minutes beyond the time limit.
