Course Description

In this course, students integrate the concepts, techniques, and knowledge of the principal components of the project, program, and portfolio management in comprehensive, applied case study exercises. Course topics ways of working, value delivery, benefits realization management, program/portfolio structuring, project scheduling and estimation, and project assessment.

Rationale

The MSPM offers an in-depth study of multiple aspects of project management. The capstone course is designed to allow the student to apply the concepts and skills gained from these courses to comprehensive case study scenarios, employing a broad range of project management knowledge. The student will complete four Discussions in this course.

• The student will post one thread of at least 500 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module: Week.
• The student must then post 2 replies of at least 250 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the assigned Module/Week.
• For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 4 scholarly citations in APA format.
• Each reply must incorporate at least 2 scholarly citation(s) in APA format.
• Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years.
• Acceptable sources include peer-reviewed journals and other information found in the JFL, the textbook, and the Bible.

Red Zuma Case Project Assignment

Each student will complete the Red Zuma Case Project, found in the Create text. The project will bring together many of the skills developed throughout the program, including the use of Microsoft Project software, project planning, evaluation, reporting, and analysis. The Red Zuma Case Project will be completed in 4 parts in both MS Project and MS Word.

Benefits Realization Map Assignment

One of the newer concepts in project management is Benefits Realization.  Projects not only must be delivered on time, on budget, and within the correct scope, but they must also achieve the benefits for the organization and the stakeholders that those projects were originally chartered.  The student will produce a benefits realization map that outlines the identification, execution, and sustainment of benefits and value delivery.  The product should be elegantly simple and designed so that all stakeholders of the PMO/VDO can understand what needs to be completed and by whom.

Best Buy Case Study Assignment

The student will review a Case Study in your MH Create text.  Then the student will write a 3-5 page paper addressing the establishment of innovation and lean six-sigma processes, elements of program management, and value delivery.

Capstone Research Paper Assignment

Each student will develop a 15-20-page research paper based on an industry of the student’s choosing that summarizes the current status of the industry and suggests the implementation of a PMO/VDO. The paper will contain sections on key project management topics, such as ways of working, value delivery, project selection criteria, program and portfolio structuring, and benefits realization.  These elements will be evaluated through a Christian worldview. A minimum of 20 references will be included with at least 10 of those being scholarly references, the Bible, PMBOK, and the textbook. The paper will require a title page, abstract, and reference page.

Integration of Faith and Learning Essay Assignment

The student will select appropriate Biblical content and relate the message of God as it relates to work in the field of project management.  This assignment will be 5 – 8 pages long and will address the role and responsibility of the Christian as project manager.
