Course Summary :

This course provides graduate-level instruction regarding the design, redesign, and implementation of effective organizations. Special emphasis is placed on the analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of both the social and technical systems of organizations with emphasis on the structural changes necessary to improve and maintain productivity and quality of work life.

Rationale :

Organizations are collections of people working together under a defined structure for the purpose of achieving predetermined outcomes through the use of financial, human, and material resources. There are a number of approaches to the structuring and managing of organizations. This course will provide the student with a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical constructs regarding the field of organizational design and structure as well as strategies for moving from theory to practice.

Measurable Learning Outcomes :

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. 1. Assess the dimensions of organizational purpose, design, and structure.
   2. Evaluate the open-system organizational design elements: external environment, international environment, and inter-organizational relationships.
   3. Evaluate the internal organizational design elements: manufacturing and service technologies, information technology, and organizational life cycle.
   4. Manage dynamic organizational design processes: organizational culture, ethical values, decision-making, and organizational conflict/power/politics.
   5. Integrate a biblical worldview within the context of organizational design.

For this discussion, you will complete two parts as defined below:

Thread :

The student is required to provide a thread in response to the Discussion prompt. The thread must be 1,000–1,500 words, include at least 3 peer-reviewed references, and demonstrate course-related knowledge.

Replies :

The student must reply to at least 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be a minimum of 400 words.

Literature Review Assignment :

The student will research and write a scholarly Literature Review that will be submitted in parts throughout the course. The student will be required to select his/her topic, and submit a 3-tiered outline with a correctly-formatted title page, and an abstract. The student must also submit an annotated bibliography of at least 15 sources. All parts of the Literature Review must be in the current APA format. The Literature Review: Final must be a minimum of 16 pages (not including the title page, abstract, and reference list) and must utilize a minimum of 15 scholarly references.

All Quizzes (4) :

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the modules: the weeks in which it is assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 25 multiple-choice and true/false questions as well as 1 essay question, and have a 45-minute time limit.
