Course Summary

This course provides an overview of international financial markets and how they operate and interrelate. The structure, characteristics, and issues for markets in the Americas, Europe, Africa/Middle East, and Asia/Pacific will be identified.

Rationale

This course explores the view that the world is moving toward a single global market and provides a broad and balanced introduction to financial markets across the world. Within this context, the course culminates in providing the student with skills for examining how an international business can raise capital to fund projects in a foreign market of its choice.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Discuss the goals of International financial management, International trades, and the European Monetary System.
2. Evaluate Securities Markets, Money, Bonds, Stock Exchanges, Hedge Funds, and Private Equity.
3. Appraise the effectiveness of the Foreign Exchange, European Economic and Monetary Union, and Derivative Products.
4. Examine the key trends in Global Financial Markets.
5. Integrate biblical principles within the field of Global Financial Markets.

Discussions

The Discussions in this course allow the student an opportunity to apply what he/she has learned from the assigned Readings. The discussion will vary per student.

There are 3 parts to each Discussion.

Part A

• This is the key topic submission.

Part B

• In the Discussion thread, must be at least 500 words and cite 5 recent scholarly articles (published within the last 5 years). During

Part C

• The student must reply to at least 2 of his/her classmates. Each reply must be 200 – 350 words.

The student will complete an annotated bibliography to be used for the Thematic Literature Review. There should be at least 12 annotations and 150 words used for each annotation.

Essay

The student will write an essay with a minimum of 500 words where you will integrate the Bible into one of the topics related to global financial markets covered in this course. The student will briefly describe how the Bible is related to the chosen topic covered in the course. Integration of the Bible must be explicitly shown, in relation to the chosen course topic, in order to receive points. In addition to the required textbook, at least 2 other outside scholarly sources should be used to substantiate your position.

Literature Review

The student will write a literature review on a topic relevant to the course. The paper will be a comprehensive thematic review of the scholarly literature related to the selected topic. The paper is to be written in strict conformance to APA standards, contain at least 16 double-spaced pages of content (excluding the title page, abstract, and reference page), and utilize at least 12 scholarly references.
