Course Description

This capstone course for all healthcare administration majors seeks to integrate the concepts, techniques, and knowledge of all areas of healthcare administration. Its focus is strategic management which is studied in theory and then rigorously applied. This course is designed for final semester seniors. For information regarding prerequisites for this course, please refer to the Academic Course Catalog.

Rationale

A major component of the healthcare administration program is the capstone course that requires students to apply what they have learned throughout the curriculum. The overall objective of the capstone course is to enable students to build upon their theoretical preparation. Students will enhance their leadership skills and systematic problem/issue analysis skills, etc. through direct participation in case analysis and other focused experiences.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Integrate a biblical worldview within the context of the healthcare manager’s role in strategic planning.
  2. Analyze and evaluate complex business problems in internal and external organization environments, recommend/implement courses of action, and evaluate the impact that such actions and forces will have on organizational success in relation to the healthcare industry.
  3. Demonstrate a working knowledge of financial statements and ratio analyses.
  4. Exhibit an understanding of the functions of marketing, accounting, financial analysis, human resource management, strategic management, and operations management, and how these individual activities work together to optimize the healthcare organization’s performance.
  5. Synthesize and articulate an optimal and ethical strategic plan founded upon Christian principles.
  6. Generate effective management skills to produce goals, strategies, and performance measures.

  • Discussions are collaborative learning experiences.
  • Each student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided promptly for each discussion.
  • Each thread must be at least 600 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge.
  • In addition to the thread, each student is required to reply to 2 other students’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words.
