Course Description

The student will study all of the major aspects of operating a modern business. Emphasis is given to business practice for both small businesses and large corporate enterprises.

Rationale

Introduction to Business will provide students with a general, broad understanding of the current business world and how it is changing, so they can relate to and function effectively within it.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Distinguish between correct and incorrect approaches to business behavior and practices (PLOs 2 and 4; Introduced).
2. Explain business concepts as they relate to application and theory (PLO 1; Introduced).
3. Synthesize a biblical view of life, work, family, and church through self-evaluation (PLO 3; Introduced).

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided promptly for each forum. Each thread must be 300–500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 250–350 words.

Connect Assignments (8)

Each student will complete a Connect assignment covering the chapters assigned in each Module: Week. The Connect assignments provide the student an opportunity to review concepts discussed in the reading material for the assigned Module: Week(s).

Business Topic Essay Assignments (3)

Topic Assignment

The student will choose one of the topics from the provided list and submit the topic, along with the rationale for the choice, to the instructor clearly articulated in at least 50 words.

Outline and References Assignment

The student will submit an outline and reference page in preparation for the final research essay. The reference page must include at least 2 scholarly, peer-reviewed references. The current APA format must be used.

Final Assignment

The student will research and write a 2-page research essay in the current APA format that focuses on the topic selected in part 1. The paper must include at least 2 scholarly, peer-reviewed references in addition to the course textbook and the Bible.

Quizzes (4)

Each quiz will cover the reading material for the assigned modules. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 40 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 1-hour time limit.
