Students will explore global issues and challenges faced by leaders in the aviation safety community. Certain student projects will be contextualized through the lens of the Christian Church at work in the world.

Christian aviation safety leaders must understand the key issues in today’s aviation world and let their light shine in such a way for people to see their good work and glorify our God in Heaven.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

  1. Explore and understand critical safety issues that Christian and mission aviation organizations
  2. Correlate aviation safety issues that missionary organizations face and compare them to what other aviation communities (airlines, military, corporate, and general aviation, among others)
  3. Critically analyze the growth and influence of unmanned aerial systems in today’s aviation
  4. Review and discuss the influence of global politics and economics on aviation safety.
  5. Research and write an APA-formatted paper on a selected issue (continuation of capstone project) while integrating a Biblical

Class Introduction Discussion

The student will complete the Class Introduction Discussion in a visual presentation format. The visual presentation must include at maximum a 5-minute recorded presentation.

Written Introduction Discussion

The student will reply to the prompt to give their background in aviation safety and talk about what they want to get out of this course.

Discussions

There are four Discussions to be completed in this course. The student is required to post one thread of at least three paragraphs (3-5 sentences) with 500 words and two replies of at least two paragraphs (3-5 sentences) with 250 words to two classmates’ threads.  (MLO: A, B, C, D)

Issue Critique Assignment– Comparative Analysis of Missionary vs. Other

The student will research and select one issue mentioned in Learning Outcome #2 or another approved by the course professor. The student will write a 3-page (800-1000 word) APA-formatted comparative analysis of the issue. This assignment provides a path toward continuation with the Course Capstone project.  (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Article Critique Assignment– Christian/Mission Aviation Issues

The student will research and select one article written five years ago or less that details critical safety issues that Christian and mission aviation organizations face. The student will write a 3-page (800-1000 word) APA-formatted summary of the article and offer a critique of the article, which may include recommended solutions to the issues presented.  (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Unmanned Aerial Systems or Global Politics/Economics Briefing Assignment

The student will choose an area from Learning Outcome #3 or #4. Starting with a preview during week 4, the student will deliver a briefing on either an unmanned aerial systems issue or a situation in global politics/economics related to aviation safety. The student will incorporate the information gained through researching and writing the formal paper and create a briefing with 15 PowerPoint slides minimum with accompanying notes that include APA-formatted citations. This assignment provides a path toward continuation with the Course Capstone project. The professor will give an optional time for students to present their work to the class via a web-based interactive session (Participation with interactive session not required).  (MLO: A, B, C, D)

Formal Paper Assignment

The student will write a 7-10 page (2000-2500 words) APA-formatted paper with a minimum of five scholarly and three industry references. This graduate-level assignment provides a path toward continuation with a Capstone project.  The subject area should cover unmanned aerial systems, global politics, or economic issues related to aviation safety.  (MLO: A, B, C, D, E)

Quizzes (4)

The student will complete four quizzes in this course. All quizzes will be open-book/open notes and contain 10 questions in varying formats. The allotted time for each quiz is 1 hour.  (MLO: A, B, C, D)

Reflection Assignments

The student will write a three-paragraph (3-5 sentences per paragraph – approximately 250 words) essay reflecting on varying course themes. The reflection must answer the questions posed in the assignment instructions.  (MLO: A, B, C, D)
