Course Description
Leaders in aviation must grow and develop new leaders. This course will explore and analyze how to be an effective leader in aviation and how to disciple, coach, and mentor developing leaders for leading effectively in positions of higher authority and responsibility.

Rationale
We cannot assume that good leadership will simply happen in a new job position. Leaders must be disciplined, coached, mentored, and guided for effective leadership in aviation. Using a biblical worldview perspective, this course prepares aviation professionals to take action in developing their own leadership and in discipline, coaching, and mentoring new leaders.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain and analyze using a biblical worldview the meanings of discipleship, coaching, and mentorship for leadership development.
- Describe how to disciple, coach, and mentor an aviation professional for increased authority and responsibility.
- Analyze case situations to determine effective methods and solutions for developing aviation leaders.
- Create a biblical discipline, coaching, and mentorship plan for developing aviation leaders.

Research Article Critique
The student will select one research article written five years ago or less that details current trends and methodologies for discipline, mentoring, and/or coaching leaders in aviation or related field. In accordance with the assignment instructions, the student will write a summary of the article and offer a critique of the article, which includes how you may apply the concepts presented. Case Studies (6)
There are six Case Studies to be completed in this course, and each one is associated with one of the six Strong Leader’s Hand Workbook topics. Using the case situation presented, the student will answer the questions in the form of a case study incorporating the respective Workbook topic. The focus for each Case Study will be to derive recommendations for discipline, mentoring, and coaching young aviation leaders in a particular setting and in the context of the respective Workbook topic and a situation account from Scripture. Discipling, Mentoring, and Coaching Plan for Developing Aviation Leaders
The student will incorporate lessons from The Strong Leader’s Hand Workbook Series and current research on discipline, mentoring, and coaching leaders to develop a written leadership discipline, mentoring, and coaching plan for developing aviation leaders. The plan should address the cognitive, emotional/social, physical, and spiritual needs of developing leaders. The plan will include citations from the research literature in current APA formatting. Leader Interview and Course Reflection Paper
The student will interview a leader and write an essay summarizing the interview and reflections on the learning experience in this course. The reflection must answer the questions posed in the assignment instructions. (MLO: A, B, D)
