Course Description

This course provides the requisite aircraft, simulator, and ground instruction training required to take the FAA Additional Category (Airplane Single Engine Land) and Instrument Airplane practical test. Students must already hold a valid FAA Commercial/Instrument Rotorcraft rating. During this course, students will complete the required training outlined in the applicable training course outline (TCO) under FAA 14CFR141 Appendix I and Appendix C.

The student will be required to complete the following three FAA practical tests at the end of this course: Commercial Single Engine, Added-Instrument, and Commercial Multi-Engine Add-On.

Rationale

This course will instruct students who hold FAA Rotorcraft Certification and Ratings in corresponding fixed-wing flight coursework. The learning will prepare students to earn all Commercial single, multi-engine, and instrument certificates and ratings.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a satisfactory level of knowledge and flight skills proficiency to progress in the commercial and instrument training curriculum.
  2. Discuss topics relevant to commercial pilot flight operations.
  3. Analyze commercial pilot topics using relevant aviation resources.
  4. Describe his/her biblical worldview as it relates to his/her role as an aviation professional.

Course Assignment

After reading the Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Students must submit a 2–3 minute video introduction. Students may use a multi-media platform of choice to record their videos. However, Kaltura is recommended. Specific elements stated within the discussion prompt must be included. This will be a graded assignment. Students must also reply to at least 2 classmates’ introductions. Each reply must contain at least 150 words, including a question or a relevant follow-up response to guide the discussion.

 

The Flight Affiliate Handbook provides essential information for the successful completion of your flight training program and requirements. This quiz will ask you to acknowledge that you have read the FTA Handbook provided to you via the FTA Welcome Letter as well as any and all information provided to you on the Liberty University Flight Training Affiliate Program website.  (MLO: 1)

 

The student must complete various Discussions in this course. Each student will post an initial thread of 400-500 words in the assigned Module: Week for each Discussion. In addition, the student must then post 2 replies of 250 words. These are intended to be scholarly dialogues and for each thread, the student must support his/her assertions with proper scholarly support in APA format with sources listed as References at the end of the post. As the student progresses through Flight Training Course Outline at their Flight Training Affiliate, it is very important that the student stays on pace to complete the course requirements before the end of the semester. To help the student stay fully aware of their own progress and to keep the professor informed, the student will digitally submit a Flight Course Log by 11:59 p.m. (ET) at the end of the assigned Module: Week, regardless of how many training units were complete during the previous week. Each area of the Flight Course Log Form must be completed fully and accurately.

This is the student’s opportunity to keep a journal of their flight training experience and it will serve as a means for the professor to understand how things are going in flight training. (MLO: 1)

 

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Modules: Weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain various questions, and have an assigned time limit. (MLO: 1, 2, 3)

 

As the student progresses through their Flight Training Course at their Flight Training Affiliate, it is very important that the student stays on pace to complete the course requirements before the end of the course. To help the student stay fully aware of their own progress and to keep the professor informed, the student will upload a PDF copy of their Flight Course Progress via a provided documentation obtained from the student’s local FTA during the midterm and final week of the course.

This document must verify the number of activities completed within the weeks of the course. It is suggested to upload your invoice provided by your FTA. Your invoice should have all the training activities you have participated in. This assignment is graded based on the number of activities completed. Be sure to view the grading rubric for this assignment. (MLO: 1)

 

Each Module: Week the student is assigned specific lessons within the King Course Test Course. This is a completed assignment. The student must complete all the videos. The student will receive a cumulative grade/points for completing all the assigned videos or the student will receive a zero for an incompletion. (MLO: 1, 2, 3)

 

In order to pass this class, the student must complete his/her Fixed Wing Commercial Certificate. Once complete, the student must submit either a copy of his/her Fixed Wing Commercial Certificate, his/her license/certificate (front and back), or a temporary certificate, if applicable.

In addition, the student must complete his/her Fixed Wing Commercial Certificate with Added-Instrument Rating. Once complete, the student must submit either a copy of his/her Fixed Wing Commercial Certificate with Added-Instrument Rating, his/her license/certificate (front and back), or a temporary certificate, if applicable.
