Description
Liberty AVIA 326 Commercial Flight II Entire Class
Course Description
This course is the second of three sequential flight training courses that include the requisite aircraft and simulator training and experience required for the FAA Commercial Pilot practical test. During this course, students will complete approximately one-third of the aircraft and simulator training and experience hours required in the applicable commercial pilot training course outline (TCO).
For information regarding prerequisites for this course, please refer to the Academic Course Catalog.
Rationale
The purpose of AVIA 326 is to, in part (this is the second of three consecutive courses), prepare the student to complete the written FAA Part 141 Commercial Pilot Test, complete approximately 40 flight hours of the FAA Part 141 Pilot Syllabus, and to successfully pass the FAA Commercial Pilot in-flight check ride. The practical flight training consists of scheduled weekly flight lessons with an FAA Certificated Flight Instructor. These flight lessons include in-flight training, flight simulator training, as well as pre-brief and post-brief ground training. Completion of this course requires the successful completion of at least 66% of the Commercial Pilot Training Course Outline (TCO) at the applicate LU Flight Training Affiliate.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
-
- Demonstrate a satisfactory level of knowledge and flight skills proficiency to progress in the commercial pilot training curriculum.
- Discuss topics relevant to commercial pilot flight operations.
- Analyze commercial pilot topics using relevant aviation resources.
- Describe how having a biblical worldview affects the roles of professional aviators.
Course Assignment
Course Requirements Checklist
After reading the Course Syllabus at Liberty University, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
Discussion: Class Introductions
Students must submit a 2–3 minute video introduction. Students may use a multi-media platform of choice to record their videos. However, Kaltura is recommended. Specific elements stated within the discussion prompt must be included. This will be a graded assignment. Students must also reply to at least 2 classmates’ introductions. Each reply must contain at least 150 words, including a question or a relevant follow-up response to guide the discussion.
The Flight Affiliate Handbook provides essential information for the successful completion of your flight training program and requirements. This quiz will ask you to acknowledge that you have read the FTA Handbook provided to you via the FTA Welcome Letter as well as any and all information provided to you on the Liberty University Flight Training Affiliate Program website.
Discussions (5)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student must complete various Discussions in this course. Each student will post an initial thread of 400-500 words of the assigned Module for each Discussion: Flight Reflection or video submission for the mini-scenarios Discussions. In addition, the student must then post 2 replies of 250 words. These are intended to be scholarly dialogues and for each thread, the student must support his/her assertions with proper scholarly support in APA format with sources listed as References at the end of the post. (MLO: A-D)
The purpose of this assignment is to prepare a visual and audio briefing/presentation regarding a provided flight scenario to include applicable references from this Course. The visual briefing/presentation must include a 4-6 minute recorded Narrated PowerPoint presentation thoroughly covering all necessary key elements. Within the presentation, you must include and cite appropriate aviation resources. A minimum of 2 sources, APA formatted, is required. (MLO: A-D)
As the student progresses through their Flight Training Syllabus at their Flight Training Affiliate, it is very important that the student stays on pace to complete the identified “Percent of TCO” requirement located within the instructions at the midway point in the course as well as before the end of the course. To help the student stay fully aware of their own progress and to keep the professor informed, the student will upload the “Percent of TCO Form” verifying “percent of TCO” progress halfway through the course and before the final module of the course. This form will provide crucial information exchanged between all stakeholders (professor, student, and flight instructor/ FTA).
Personal Reflection Paper Assignment
The student will write a 2-3 page paper (not including title and references) reflecting on their flight training experience. This experience includes both the academic work completed as well as the % of TCO completed during flight training at the FTA.
Flight Course Log Quizzes (2)
As the student progresses through Flight Training Syllabus at their Flight Training Affiliate, it is very important that the student stays on pace to complete the course requirements before the end of the term. To help the student stay fully aware of their own progress and to keep the professor informed, the student will submit a Flight Course Log Quiz. This is the student’s opportunity to keep a journal of their flight training experience and it will serve as a means for the professor to understand how things are going in flight training.
